Homework

Homework supports independent learning, deepens understanding, and helps students make progress. It takes place outside the classroom but is a vital part of the curriculum.

Homework helps students to:

  • Build self-discipline, organisation, and time management.
  • Reinforce and extend learning from lessons.
  • Develop research and revision skills.
  • Engage parents/carers in the learning process.

Types of homework may include:

  • Written work: essays, notes, practice questions.
  • Reading: fiction or non-fiction texts.
  • Flipped learning: research, presentations, resource preparation.
  • Skill practice: vocabulary, formulae, spellings.
  • Revision for tests or assessments.
  • Projects or assignments.
  • Media-based tasks: watching, listening, note-taking.
  • Creative tasks: drawing, design, interviews.
  • Online platforms.

Most subjects set homework weekly. Practical subjects (e.g. PE, Drama, Music) do not set formal homework but encourage participation in extra-curricular clubs.
