Examinations

GCSE, AS and A level exams will be held between 7 May and 24 June 2026. Students must be available for the whole of the exam period, plus a contingency day. Please note, the awarding bodies have designated the morning and afternoon sessions of Wednesday 24th June 2026 as ‘contingency sessions’. These contingency sessions are designed to be used in the event of national or significant local disruption to examinations. This means that all exam candidates must be available to sit exams from the date of their first exam until Wednesday 24th June 2026. This decision is not a school decision and does apply to all candidates in all schools.

You will receive GCSE results on Thursday 20 August 2026.

Following a consultation, Ofqual will change its rules to require exam boards to provide students with support materials in the form of formulae and equations sheets for GCSE mathematics, physics and combined science exams in 2025, 2026 and 2027. It is not necessary for students to memorise the formulae for GCSE Mathematics and most equations for GCSE Physics and combined Science for those years. The longer-term expectations will be confirmed after DFE’s Curriculum and Assessment Review.

Exam boards take their responsibility to ensure results are accurate very seriously, with quality assurance checks at every point. Occasionally, students are unsure that the right grade has been given or are interested in seeing the grade breakdown to the questions they answered.
