Enrichment

Enrichment is a vital part of students’ personal development.

Universities and employers increasingly look for well‑rounded individuals, and our enrichment programme is designed to help students build the skills, confidence and experiences they need for the next stage of their journey.

A dedicated group of Year 12 and 13 students volunteer their time to support younger students with their reading. This programme strengthens literacy across the school while giving older students valuable leadership experience.

In partnership with the Diocese of Ely, twelve Year 12 and 13 students have been trained as Peer Mentors. They work closely with younger students experiencing anxiety or low self‑esteem, offering guidance, encouragement and a positive role model. All mentors receive full training in mentoring and safeguarding and plan thoughtful, engaging sessions for the students they support.

Some sixth form students assist in lessons such as Maths, Geography and Art, providing additional support to younger learners. This is particularly valuable for students considering a future career in education.

Many students take part in high‑quality work experience placements that help shape their future career choices. Recent placements include local primary schools, Hinchingbrooke Hospital, and a range of businesses and industries. Students consistently report that these experiences are both rewarding and inspiring.

Our students are enthusiastic fundraisers, regularly organising events such as cake sales and Christmas Jumper Days. This year, they have supported Macmillan Cancer Support, Save the Children, Children in Need and the Godmanchester Foodbank.

We aim to provide students with opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. Each year, students attend at least one West End musical; in December 2017, forty students enjoyed The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. Working with the Business Studies department, we also organise an annual summer trip to London to explore key landmarks and broaden cultural understanding.

A wide range of sporting activities is available to help students stay active, develop teamwork skills and unwind. Football remains a firm favourite, but students also have opportunities to take part in hockey, Pilates and fitness sessions.
